Course Objectives: Clinical Cannabis Considerations

Upon successful completion pharmacists should be able to:

  1. Identify the role of the Endocannabinoid system in biological homeostasis when considering the risks versus benefits in recommending cannabis based therapies for qualifying symptoms
  2. Differentiate between the safety and efficacy of major phytocannabinoids in their pharmacologic and pharmacokinetic profiles, specific to approved formulation and administration route
  3. Review methods of obtaining informed consent from patients due to the experimental nature of cannabis, and risks of dependence, addiction, and diversion when using a Schedule 1 substance
  4. Recognize warnings, precautions, potential drug and disease state interactions, including patients with known substance abuse and high potential of abuse
  5. Organize patient specific therapeutic and/or palliative recommendations for over 20 symptoms and conditions
